Karunamoorthy has been
involved in the insurance and financial services since 1979. He holds a Science
degree from the University of Malaya, obtained a Diploma from the Malaysian
Insurance Institute (including the Best Overall Performance Award in the 1985
examinations), a Law degree from the University of London and a Certificate of
Legal Practice (CLP) from the University of Malaya. He has also been admitted
to the Malaysian Bar as an Advocate and Solicitor.
While continuing his career in sales and agency management, he successfully completed the Associate Chartered Insurance Institute
of London and the Associate Malaysian Insurance Institute examinations. In
1992, he was awarded the best student for the subject of Law and Taxation in
these examinations.
In 2002, he qualified as a
Certified Financial Planner (CFP) awarded by the Financial Planning Association
of Malaysia. In 2003 he completed the Fellow Chartered Financial Practitioner
Course (FChFP) conducted by the National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAMLIFA). Once again he earned the honour of
being the Top Student in the subject of Taxation and Tax Planning. He was
conferred the qualifications of Registered Financial Planner (RFP) in 2004 and
the Shariah RFP in 2010 by the Malaysian Financial Planning Council. Karunamoorthy
is a Past President and Fellow of NAMLIFA and was a member of the Board of
Directors and subsequently a member of the Academic Council of the Malaysian Insurance Institute.
Having been
involved for several years in sales and agency management with a leading insurer,
he is also regarded as a well known consultant and trainer in the areas of life insurance & family takaful law and "Business Insurance". Karuna has provided his expertise to
insurance companies, takaful operators, banks, trust corporations and various organisations. He is
a regular trainer in law, insurance, family takaful and financial planning, and has authored several
publications on these subjects. Currently he is also a Consultant in the law
firm “Karunamoorthy & Associates”.
Having had the benefit of a strong and balanced upbringing, he received recognition as an “Outstanding Sportsman” in his school days. Trained in both Indian and English classical music, he plays several musical instruments and sings in several languages. He is especially proficient at the piano for which he holds a Grade 8 Certificate from the Associate Board of the Royal School of Music, London. A father of three children, both his daughters obtained their law degrees at the age of 20 and went on subsequently to qualify with Masters in Law from the University of London. His son was trained in Brisbane, Australia and qualified as a pilot at the age of 18.
